Police in South Africa fired on miners armed with machetes
and sticks.
The Lonmin owned mine that digs for platinum has had
problems with the work force because of a dispute over very poor pay. The nation
was comparing his to the terrible days of Apartheid in South Africa.
Thousands of miners were at Marikana about 80 miles from
Johannesburg requesting a pay rise for the work they undertake, police were sent
to stop the gathering when the shooting started.
