Spain May be Requesting Bailout - 27th September 2012

With Spain's borrowing costs back to very high levels speculation that Spain will need a bailout, Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy suggested at a press meeting that if current borrowing costs remain too high for too long then Spain would need to have help and a bailout.

With a deeper recession and out put down the country is in a very bad condition.

The capital Madrid is out living austerity measures with savings, reforms and higher taxes this all comes when anti-austerity protests in the capital have seen a second night of violent protestors.

Insurance News - 25th September 2012

-AXA get the title for the most complaints in 2012 above RSA and Aviva. They received 557 new complaints with RSA getting 412 and Aviva reaching a total of 435 general insurance complaints so far this year.

-Online sales are down for Brightside and has moved to drop both Aviva and Southern Rock as their sole underwriters for van and home insurance. One of the reasons was because the pricing of these products had become uncompetitive.

-Towergate try to strike a deal with Norwich and Peterborough Insurance brokers (NPIB) where the estimated purchase price maybe in the reigion of £8m plus.

-Professional Insurance Agents Ltd are set to consider the purchase of 3 professional indemnity brokers or a possible merge between the parties.

-Masson, the new boss of Swiftcover needs to consider how to bring the company back to profit after posting a £10.7m loss last year.

Insurance News - 12th September 2012

1. FSA, Financial Services Authority fines Black Rock £9.5 million for failures to properly ring-fence client money deposits.

After investigation by the FSA it was suggested that up to £1.3 billion of client money could have been lost.

2. Many businesses including in the insurance industry have been refused business loans that have been applied for over the last 12 months. Brokers reported that expansion loans were very hard to come by at present.

3. Many insurance companies who are offering solicitors professional indemnity insurance are looking to give 2 year covers to the profession as the break up of the ARP comes into force in 2013.

4. Professional Insurance Agents CEO, Graham Hearsey said he welcomes the idea of insurers offering PI Insurance over a 2 year period and suggests this could be extended to other classes also.

Eurozone - 12th September 2012

Eurozone is in crisis again. A court in Germany is about to give it's discussion on whether to support bailouts in the Eurozone.

A constitutional court in Karlsruhe are more likely to give their verdict that certain rules will have to be out in place regarding future bailouts in the Eurozone.

Other things that may affect the UK is the suggestion that the European Commission will lay out it's plans today for the creating of a Eurozone banking union that may mean transfer of power from National bodies. This of course could seriously affect the UK banking world.

- Three killings happen in France with one young girl found hiding the bodies of 2 women and one many where found all thought to be British.
The young girl was found hiding under one of the bodies, the murders happened in the lake Annecy area.

- Oscar Pistorios gets his gold medal at the Paralympics in the 4x100m breaking the current world record.
